#TeacherTuesday- My Little Free Library and Poshmark Platform Unite!

Dear friends! It is day 56 of Quarantine for us over here in sunny San Diego. I recently became a Free Little Library owner in December, and have been happily collecting books for my library.

In addition to plumping up my own stock, I thoroughly enjoy restocking the other libraries in my community. There are a few popular libraries that are underserved, always emptied and sad before I arrive.

One of the most beautiful observations that I have had with this pandemic is that all of our community libraries are FULL! I truly believe that the community is using their libraries, as I am noticing constant movement and rearranging in my own library, and 2 others that I frequently steward. Yay! And so, I have had an excess of 100 books to donate, sitting in my home.

Let’s segway here, as I remind you all that I am a Poshmark Ambassador! I have been running a cute little online shop for over 5 years now. There are tons of acronyms for poshers and online shoppers alike; are you privy to FWP? Free with Purchase Items are one of my favorite things to offer in my shop. Things that aren’t quite profitable enough to sell, things that are used, damaged, or need a new home. You see, the Poshmark shopper pays for 5lbs of shipping costs NO MATTER WHAT. So, when you buy an Anthropologie polka-dot dress from my closet for $14, you pay $6.99 for 5lbs of Priority Mail. Why not add a few things?!

I want Poshers to be curious about reading! And boy, are the Nicholas Sparks books a hit! It has been so fun to see shoppers buy a trinket for themselves, like Nike running shorts, and add a copy of my favorite book to their order for free.

I think I may be the first person to have a FREE LITTLE LIBRARY in my Poshmark shop! I am deeply inspired to share and would love if anyone wanted to replicate something similar in their own shop.

Are you a Poshmark Seller? This is for you!

There are 2 ways to list FWP items. You can:

-List the item as $3 and instruct the buyer to deduct the price from their offer (in the comments section)

-List as 0 dollars (but then is marked as not for sale, and the customer as to personally reach out to see if the book is available still.

I opted for the first option, in bold! (Items cannot be listed as less than $3 in Poshmark due to the $2.95 seller fee)

Happy Poshing!

Alaska Reading Vibes and TEOTWAWKI- #WellReadWednesdays

I love reading!

Thank you mum, for my copy of The Great Alone. She knows me so well, and I have found all of my best books from my mama!

For me, there is a direct correlation between reading and sanity. If my mental health is poor, I can guarantee that I haven’t been reading. Or, the book I tried reading was a dud and I am just not SUCKED IN. These days, I have been having a hard time pushing through books that aren’t serving me. Perhaps I am just getting older, not wasting my time, but old-me definitely made myself finish the book, front to back. A half read novel was a horrible waste of time, and I never did so. Until now! Ha. I have half-read about 10 books before THE GREAT ALONE took my breath away. I absolutely loved it, flew through the pages and am adding it to one of my favorite books of all time. Go for it.

The elements that captivated me? The descriptive language for Alaskan landscape, the description of ‘the break-up’ in Spring when all the ice and snow melts, a window into physical abuse, PTSD, alcoholism, and rich 1970’s history. Bonus points for outfit and food descriptions, I live for being a fly on their wall!

Reading powers ACTIVATED! I have been able to read daily ever since, and have picked up some surprising novels to ease my anxieties.

TEOTWAWKI- An acronym for The End of the World as we Know it, was also a really fun read this week. Someone bought this book for Josh many moons ago; I was fiending for a good book and trying to fill the gaping hole in my heart that The Great Alone had created. I was not disappointed!

Very sensical, I started to trust the author when I found out he is an Army Veteran. He is also not using a fear-based pedestal to stand on. The most eerie part of the book? The first page, literally page X in my copy, paints a scene of the exact pandemic that we are in right now. Chills down my spine, I read the first few sentences to Josh and to my mom, totally amazed at his accuracy from a 2009 publication. I created a fun list for us to work with, and it was a fun project to work on as nerd survivalists 🙂 #dreamdate

If you like making lists of lists, and always list your life, then this book will work swimmingly for you. I flew through the pages and am ready to get out of dodge!

Happy reading OMies ❤

Reminiscing on Reading- #WellReadWednesday

My favorite author- Haruki Murakami!
As I turned teach page, it fell out! Old spine, passed the book along to a friend in a ziplock bag
I love a good murder mystery- with a booch in hand! Thanks husband for growing all those pretty flowers in our yard 🙂

I love reading and know that I have my head screwed on straight if I am able to stop, drop and read. Recently, I’ve been having a hard time getting into a book. I’ll read a few chapters and slowly float away. Trying again today! I love when a book is also available a as a movie. I will try to finish some of the books I have, knowing there is the motivation of a motion picture afterwards. Anyone else?

I prefer paper books, but I have access to a nook and electronic reader. Book suggestions please! 🙂

VRKSASANA: This red/god tree is so similar to the 8 limbs of yoga in many ways. Who would care to compare the two over a cup of coffee? #callme

An enlightened and free gypsy, riddled with society

An avid lover of Into The Wild- both the book and the movie- I begged and convinced my besties to drive out with me to Brawley, CA and visit this freaky site! It had always been on our bucket list, as we are native San Diegans and need to get out more. Hard to do when you live in paradise! Our roadtrip was 2017, during my yoga teacher training. Love you Age and Lyd ❤

Rather than inundating you with words, I leave you with a photo montage of our time together. Watch the movie, read the book, and visualize yourself here on sacred travels. A sight unseen!

Pro tips:

– NO BATHROOMS at Salvation Mountain. None at all! It is a very windy site, ladies, so mindful of how you pee in the wind. Godspeed 🙂 pun intended. The safest place we found to pee was 20 miles before Salvation Mtn, at a Starbucks inside of a Vons.

-at least a 2+ hour drive from San Diego, prepare to stop at Border Patrol w/ Dog Search. Bonus points if you get the sassy, mean, blonde haired Border Patrol Agent that doesn’t believe you are all from San Diego, while holding your licenses in hand that state San Diego addresses 😉 She was really confused and…memorable.
